Name: Fox Style Dagger-Play
Type: Style
Weapon: Dagger/Knife
Description: In the land of Ascen, there exists a legend that is passed down among the more poverty stricken areas of the nation; the legend of "The Fox". The fox was a renowned thief that once threatened the very foundation of the Merchant Guilds that rule over the caravans. It began as a string of robberies in Ascen's capital of Nordat, all of which were said to be committed by the same person; a cloaked stranger wearing a fox mask. They left a simple message in each of the places they raided; "The corrupt will be purged." Fearing for their coffers, the merchant's guild put a bounty on the perpetrator and started to heavily guard their treasuries, though it would do them no good. Whoever this mysterious figure was, they had incredible talent for stealth, talent that was only matched by their skill with a blade. The stories say that entire fortunes were pilfered during the thief's reign, corrupt merchant lords reduced to mere peasants in the course of the night. No matter how strong or alert the defenders were, the Fox would slip by or cut them down. One of the more famous stories tells of an encounter that they had with Ascen's champion of the time, and how they were able to match the them blow for blow until finally finding a window to escape. No one knows what became of the Fox in the end; they left the most wealthy and corrupt of the merchant lords in utter poverty then simply vanished into the night. Despite their best efforts to track the thief down, the guild was never able to find the Fox's trail, nor any of the fortune they stole. The only thing that they ever learned about the Fox was that they bore the name "Ve'Faux", a title meaning 'false blood' that's given to bastards in place of a surname.
Though the thief and their fortune disappeared, their name and legend remained. The name of Fox resurfaced again and again over the years, each time worn by a different person, bearing their own mask and blade. And so the tale continued to grow, all those that take up the mantle throwing their name away and becoming a 'false blood', assuming they weren't already. Now days the title is passed from one thief to another, each new face finding an apprentice to pass their knowledge onto once they've added their own stories to the legend. Of course, said legend has become so obscure that there are few in this day who would recognize it; only those deeply connected to Ascen's underground, and those who have grown up with stories of the thief's exploits.
The Fox Style is the product of generations of evolution upon those who first tried to emulate the great thief, the resulting form barely resembling the original at all. While the first Fox's blade work was said to truly magnificent to behold, the modern adaptation is far removed from it's legendary grace and beauty; It's a crude style that has no set stances and is focused almost entirely on keeping the user alive. As such, it has a heavy emphasis on evasive movement and techniques designed to even the playing field against opponents who would otherwise be stronger. Many would call it a 'dirty' way to fight, but the practitioners understand that when your life's on the line, keeping your head is much more important than playing fair. However, no matter how crude or underhanded the fox style might seem, there are few who can deny that those who practice it are truly skilled at their craft.
Practitioners gain 2 Agility advantages while using this style.
Secret Techniques
Name: Blur
Rank: E
Type: Dagger
Description: The most basic of the Fox Style techniques as well as one of the most useful when it comes to staying alive. Blur is an evasion technique that allows the user to reposition their body instantly, moving up to roughly two feet from wherever they started with such speed that their body seems to blur and stretch from one spot to the next. The limited range of this technique makes in unsuitable for dodging attacks that cover a large area, but quite effective against more mundane physical attacks. Due to the speed involved in this technique, repeated use over a short period of time puts an enormous strain on the user's body; with most users only able to use it once or twice in rapid succession(within the same post) before notable damage starts to accrue. As such, it is recommended that this only be used when absolutely necessary, lest the user literally tear themselves apart. Offensive actions cannot be taken while this technique is in use.
Name: Red Flash
Rank: D
Type: Dagger
Description: A savage, high-speed slash powered by a combination of deft manipulation and traces of the user's innate mana. Upon making contact with their target, the user twists their blade and pushes their mana into their target's body, resulting in a relatively shallow but wide wound. While causing very little damage up front, the influence of the user's magic combined with the size of the wound cause the target to lose blood at an accelerated rate. If not treated, a person afflicted with such wounds will soon find their strength draining and will eventually pass out from blood loss.
Name: Rebound
Rank: D
Type: Any
Description: While most people turn to bows, guns, or magic for their ranged combat needs, the Fox style focuses heavily on thrown weapons. This deceptively simple technique allows the user to exert a degree of control over their weapon after it leaves their hand, giving them the ability to ricochet their attacks along precise trajectories. While at D rank the user is only capable of controlling the first bounce, their control will increase as they become more skilled and coordinated; gaining the ability to manipulate 2 ricochets at B rank, and 3 at S.
Name: Piercing Claw
Rank: C
Type: Dagger
Description: While many assume that daggers are ineffective against heavily armored foes, this is not always the case. No armor is impenetrable, the same gaps that allow the one wearing it to move providing angles of attack for those that would stand against them. Taking advantage of a dagger's small size and maneuverability, this technique is a precision strike that allows the user to slip through the seems in their opponent's armor and attack them directly. The user makes a single attack that can bypass armor of up to a rank below the user, effectively removing any points of equipment advantage it would give them regardless of the rank of the user's weapon. Can only be used once every 3 posts.
Name: Bloody Fang
Rank: C
Type: Dagger
Description: Strength isn't everything when it comes to attacking; where you hit is much more important. No matter how strong an opponent might be, hitting them in the right spot can make their strength suddenly fail them. The user performs a targeted slash against a foe's tendons, disrupting their muscular system and robbing them of their physical prowess. A target hit by this technique loses a single point of Advantage in either Strength of Agility, decided upon by the user when the attack is performed. This effect lasts until either the wound is treated or the topic ends, which ever happens first. A target can only ever lose one point of advantage in this way, though the user can change which stat is effected by landing another hit.
Name: Bone Crusher
Rank: C
Type: Dagger/Sword
Description: A glorified pommel strike wherein the user focuses all of their weight and momentum into a single point in order to increase the power of their attack. The resulting strike has a rather impressive amount of force behind it, able to break bones with relative ease. Of course, the real power of this attack lies in it's debilitating effects, the concussive effect of the impact easily leaving a target stunned if they get hit in the right spot. A blow to the torso will leave the target shaken, resulting in the loss of an endurance advantage, while a blow to the head will leave them in a daze, resulting in the loss of an intelligence/magic advantage. Of course, the 'all out' nature of this technique also have some adverse effects for the user, causing heavy strain to the limb they attack with in addition to leaving them staggered and wide open until they recover. Any advantage penalties from this attack wear off after 5 posts.
Name: Fading Claw
Rank: C
Type: Dagger
Description: Sometimes the most effective attack is one that your foe doesn't even know hit them. This is one such attack; the user coats their weapon with their own spiritual energy, forming a shell of sorts over the weapon's blade. An attack made while the shell is in place will not be felt by the target and no marks will be left behind, the blade seeming to harmlessly glide across them no matter how solid the hit may have been. Of course the attack was not necessarily ineffective, merely delayed in it's effect. When the effected weapon makes contact, the energy surrounding it seeps into the point of impact, storing the energy of the strike for later application. At any point within the next five posts, the user may 'activate' their attack, at which point the target receives the full effects of whatever attack they were stricken with. If not manually triggered beforehand, the stored attack automatically activates once the five post period ends.
Name: Critical Pressure
Rank: B
Type: Any
Description: Those that take of the mantle of the Fox very rarely have what you would call high end equipment. More often than not they simply have to make due with whatever's on hand at the time, so it's important that they know how to get the most out of what they have. The user gains the ability to push a piece of equipment to it's absolute limit, treating it as though its rank is equal to the user's character rank for a single action before the strain destroys it.
Name: Rending Spiral
Rank: B
Type: Dagger
Description: Displaying near supernatural levels of control over their weapon, the user starts spinning their blade in their hand and continues to increase its speed until it seems to be nothing but a whirling disc of steel, clinging to their palm as if by will alone. While in this state, the user's weapon effectively becomes a saw blade, allowing them to make particularly savage attacks and tear their way through objects if their weapon is strong enough. Of course it hardly needs mentioning just how dangerous it would be if the user were to lose control of blade while it's moving this fast.
Name: Equalizer
Rank: A
Type: Dagger
Description: While most of the Fox's original techniques were lost to the ages, the most import one, that which allowed him to battle against any foe on equal footing, was not. In order to make use of 'The Equalizer', as it has come to be known, the user must summon up a large amount of their spiritual energy and focus it into their hands, causing them to glow brightly . If they should make contact with someone in this state, the energy flows into the target and binds their spirit to the user's; altering the flow of energy within their bodies and putting them in sync. When this technique is activated, both the user and their target have their total advantage point cap set to a new value(decided on by the user). The following rules apply for setting the new cap:
This effect can be applied to more than one target at a time, with each new target effected by the same limit as the first. When interacting with each other, characters under the effect of the Equalizer have their Rank and Equipment advantages ignored. This effect lasts for 6 posts starting when the first bond was formed and wearing off for all effected characters simultaneously.
